Stockholm Sound Sanctuaries

The sound archive is derived from the Stockholm Sound Sanctuaries project run by Robin McGinley at the Swedish Royal University College of Fine Arts (Kungl Konsthogskolan) during 2004-2005.

The project was based on a public survey to identify a series of locations in Stockholm that maintain a strong acoustic character and promote quiet and reflection in an otherwise noisy soundscape.

The archive represents a number of places that were nominated and thus creates a portrait of the Stockholm soundscape created and informed by the inhabitants of the city and their daily experiences.
